 HALIMUDDIN Ahmed, Janta party

A self made man of awesome personality~ Born on November 19, 1921at Kharayia Basti adjacent to Araria town, Advocate by profession, Social worker by interest, Founding member of various Educational Institutions like Araria Azad Academy, Araria College, Alshams Millia College etcetera. Fondly called as "Gandhi of Araria" due to his sweet nature, friendly behavior, simple living style and staunch supporter of secularism and non-voilence principle. Above all, a Gentleman Politician and popular Public Figure with constructive thoughts and progressive visions, Who never remained a Publicity seeker.
Recognizing his popularity among the people, command over the general mass and impressed by the Role played by him time to time for maintaining Communal Harmony in the society, the then South Indian Civil SDO of Araria remarked about him in the Official Confidential Report ~ "He is an Asset to the Society of Araria".
The above described Life Sketch is of my late father, Haleemuddin Ahmed, Sixth Lok Sabha Member of Parliament(MP) from Kishanganj-Bihar, Member of Legislative Assembly(MLA) from Araria-Bihar.
He was one of the only two Muslim MPs elected from Bihar as a candidate of the "Congress For Democracy" Party, which later merged with the "Janata" Party to form the government. Despite being a first timer, considering his professional, social and political experiences he was nominated as Member of several powerful and prestigious Parliamentary Committees like Estimate Committee, Privileges Committee, Public Accounts Committee. He was proud of being one of the members of Privileges Committee which after a Trial passed the historical imprisonment order against Former Prime Minister Mrs.Indira Gandhi for the Emergency excesses. His well documented bold speech in Lok Sabha of Parliament for the restoration of minority character status of Aligarh Muslim University was another example of memorable performance. As a Congress MLA from Araria, his greatest achievement was to get Araria declared as a separate 'District' by the then Congress Government led by Chief Minister Dr.Jagannath Mishra on 14th January 1990 and he got the honour of presiding over the inaugural Function held in Civil S.D.O, Court campus.
All these Facts can be verified from the Official documents, records, proceedings of Parliament and Assembly as well as Press reports published in News papers during the concerned periods of time !!
